Downey, CA…
The Downey High School Art Club came to the SEAACA animal care
center in Downey armed with brushes, rollers and paint on Tuesday
afternoon. They had agreed to take on a project as a class that
involved painting a beautiful mural on the
wall where shelter
animals are photographed. “We photograph all our animals and place
their picture on-line, so we thought that sprucing up the photo
area
might help our animals show a little better,” said Aaron Reyes,
director of operations at SEAACA. When Vivian Durkee, a teacher and
Art Club Adviser at Downey High School was approached about the
project, she immediately agreed knowing her kids would jump at the
chance to help homeless animals get adopted. The mural, a peaceful
landscape setting consisting of rolling green hills and a clear blue
sky, has not only made the animal’s pictures on-line look better, it
is soothing for the animal care staff who takes the photos.
“These young art professionals were amazing to watch
as they transformed a dull wall in to an area with a very
nature-like feel,” Reyes said. “It will take a few days before the
animals impounded and photographed in front of the new mural can be
seen on-line at the top of the list. We have many pets that are
already here (and displayed first on-line) which were not
photographed in the newly decorated area, since it was just
completed on Tuesday,” Reyes stated. “The staff and animals are
very grateful!”
The Downey High School team is: Vileana De la Rosa,
