Downey, CA… Staff from the Southeast Area
Animal Control Authority (SEAACA) will be heading to LAX tomorrow
(Wednesday) to meet a Continental airlines jet filled with displaced
animals rescued from Hurricane Katrina’s destruction. SEAACA is part
of a network of animal control agencies throughout Southern
California formed to assist with housing, care and re-homing for
these lost pets. “Houston SPCA is doing a wonderful job, but they’re
simply busting at the seams with animals from the disaster zone,”
exclaimed Dan Morrison, Executive Director for SEAACA. “We’re here
to help in any way we can,” stated Morrison.
The particulars of the flight are unknown at
this time, but it is expected to arrive at LAX between 1pm and 2pm.
The flight arrangements were made from Houston, Texas where these
animals are being housed at present. Several animal control vehicles
will be on hand to transport the animals, mainly dogs. After a brief
stay at the spcaLA’s shelter where they’ll receive a medical exam,
they will make the trip to SEAACA where they will receive continued
care. “Our intent is to make them as comfortable as possible and to
get the word out that they’re here,” Morrison said. “Ideally,
placing them with a foster family as soon as feasibly possible would
be best for them, so we’re sending out a plea for interested foster
families and volunteers,” said Morrison. “They’ve been through a lot
and need some normalcy in their lives,” Morrison stated.
Anyone interested in becoming a foster parent
or volunteering to help these rescued animals, are asked to call
