LOCAL SPAY DAY USA CAMPAIGN SEES OVER 250 PETS!

Downey, CA… SEAACA’s veterinary staff spends half of every business day spaying and neutering animals. Some patients are adoptions, others are brought in from the public. But, bottom line…there’s lots of spaying and neutering going on. This effort is enhanced annually during what is called the Doris Day Foundation Spay Day USA campaign. SEAACA typically takes part in this effort, offering spay and neuter surgeries to the public at drastically reduced prices. The workload is generally at an almost unmanageable stage during Spay Day USA, so two local veterinary clinics stepped up this year to offer the same low cost surgeries to area residents.

Ashton Animal Hospital in Downey and After Hours Animal Hospital in Norwalk joined SEAACA in this year’s Spay Day USA campaign which resulted in 258 surgeries being performed during the two week period. “Our Spay Day hotline was ringing off the hook,” said Aaron Reyes, director of operations at SEAACA. “Thanks to the local media coverage preceding this year’s campaign, the response was incredible and we could not be happier here at SEAACA,” Reyes said. SEAACA’s staff set up the spay day hot line and managed the appointments for all three clinics. “They did a great job in keeping the appointments set up, which kept animals on both of my surgical tables for two weeks straight,” stated Dr. Brad Brunskill, DVM, SEAACA’s chief veterinarian. “SEAACA does good work and we’re always happy to assist them, especially when it means helping to alleviate pet overpopulation,” said Dr. Alex Trujillo, DVM, owner of After Hours Animal Hospital in Norwalk.

“Spaying and neutering our pets is the only way to stop the surplus pet problem in our shelters,” says Dr. Prakash Talati, DVM (Dr. ‘P”). “So, naturally we’re supportive of this type of effort,” exclaimed Talati.

This is the first time that SEAACA has teamed up with more than one other local veterinary hospital. SEAACA staff hopes that this campaign will become infectious and that next year’s will see twice as many clients. Of course, pet owners looking to have their pet spayed or neutered at a reasonable price in the meantime are asked to call one of the clinics below for an appointment.
