Founded in 1975, the Southeast Area Animal
Control Authority (SEAACA) is a municipal joint-powers agency
serving 13 cities in Los Angeles County.
Refuge for
Lost, Homeless and Needy Animals
SEAACA shelters strays and injured or sick animals rescued by Animal
Control Officers or concerned members of the public. When a resident
in SEAACA's service area must give up a pet but cannot find a
suitable home, SEAACA may accept the animal after an assessment is
made by staff and the relinquishment fee is paid. SEAACA wants all the
animals taken in to find wonderful homes. Though the placement rate
is never 100%, adoption numbers are steadily improving.
Comfort and
Care
In 2002, after a year-long renovation that left no square inch
unchanged, SEAACA unveiled an animal care center that is a
comfortable haven for animals, and an inviting environment for
people. A walk through the fresh facility shows off roomy, stainless
steel kennels and catteries in a peaceful area of their own. Beyond,
there are accommodations for other domestic and wild animals,
state-of-the-art dispatch, grooming and maintenance facilities, and
the Animal Wellness Clinic.
Above and
Beyond
SEAACA's staff and volunteers work diligently to foster a
compassionate kinship with animals. Is your organization interested
in humane education? SEAACA's ACO unit offers free entertaining and
informative presentations to schoolchildren and community groups:
