Why License Your Dog
(It's Your Dogs Call Home and It's the Law)
SEAACA encounters more than 10,000 dogs each year that are lost with no identification and therefore brought into the Animal Care Center. Less than 1% of these animals are licensed. If an animal has a license, the animal is held additional time as we work to located the owner.
In the State of California, every dog that is over the age of 4 months must be vaccinated against rabies and have a current license.. SEAACA monitors the licensing/rabies control program for residents living in our service cities.
Each license has our telephone number and a numbered code. When an Animal Control Officer finds a dog with a license every attempt is made to return the dog to its owner in the field.
If someone finds your dog, they often call the SEAACA. SEAACA can look up the information in the computer and provide contact information for the owner including address, phone number and whether the dog has a current rabies vaccination.
During the summer months, state mandated rabies vaccination clinics are held off-site at various locations throughout the community. Some of the SEAACA service cities also have monthly vaccination clinics available throughout the year.
