When Home Sweet Home Changes
Home is
where we live with our loved ones and where we create that unique bond
precious to each of us. Part of the home environment is the house we
live in. In today's challenging economy some people in our community are
faced with the daunting realization that they are about to lose their
house -- the house that has been the foundation for their family
environment.
If you
find yourself in this situation, please consider the following when
deciding what to do with your pet(s):
Avoid a
hasty decision to give up your pet. Take time to consider all options.
Look
for a house or
apartment that is pet friendly.
If your
move is urgent, place your pet(s) with a willing family member or friend
that can care for them while you get back on your feet.
If
you're unable to keep your pet(s), try permanently re-homing them with a
family member, friend, neighbor, co-worker or a reputable rescue group.
Always
re-home them with their favorite toy, blanket or food bowl to provide
them some comfort.
As a
last resort, call SEAACA's Adoptions Manager at (562) 803-3301 ext. 240
and explain your situation. Although the animal care center is usually
full, there may be some available space to house your pet(s) while
SEAACA attempts re-homing. SEAACA works closely with many private rescue
groups, and also takes part in community pet adoption events on a
regular basis.
NEVER
abandon your pet(s). Not only is it illegal, it is inhumane and causes
needless stress and suffering to the animal.
SEAACA
believes that pet ownership is a lifetime commitment and that "home"
(with you) is where your pet(s) belong. It is definitely where your
furry friend wants to be. |
